Rev. Dr. Karagaswewe Wimalananda Nayaka Thero started his career as a religious teacher in 1981. While teaching at the Prestigious Peliyagoda Vidyalankara Pirivena he was able to complete his bachelor's degree in Sanskrit at the Kalaniya University in 1983. He continued to teach at the Pirivena till 1988. From 1986 to 1988 he worked as a visiting lecturer in Kelenaiya University. He was engaged in a Buddhist mission at Mahabodhi Society, Varanasi, India for a period of 5 years from 1989. He had the opportunity of completing his Master's degree in 1992 and PhD in 1997 at the Banaras Hindu University. In 1993 Rev. Wimalananda Thero taught Sanskrit at the Zen Studies Society in Livingston Manor, New York for a little over two months. In 1997 he taught in Buddhist and Pali University and Kelaniya University in Colombo. In 1999 he became a senior lecturer in the Buddhist Monks' University, Anuradhapura and from 2000 to 2003 he served a term of 3 years as the Vice Chancellor of this institution. He has been teaching Sanskrit at the Buddhist Monks' University since 1999 up to now ( 2011 ) as an associate professor.
He has willingly agreed to serve as spiritual adviser for SAAGG and Pro chancellor for GULL Sri Lanka.
